Construction Underway in Fitchburg for Large Solar Project

The O'Brien Solar Fields will add 20 megawatts (MW) of cost-effective, carbon-free energy to our community grid this year.

Construction crews have started installing support posts and solar panels for MGE’s new solar array. Known as the O'Brien Solar Fields, the project will provide locally generated solar energy to local businesses, municipalities and public institutions later this year.

Partnerships grow local, clean energy

MGE is partnering with the following customers on this project through Renewable Energy Rider (RER) agreements: An RER enables MGE to partner with a large energy user to tailor a renewable energy solution to meet that customer's energy needs. This innovative model helps grow local clean energy and advance shared energy goals, including MGE’s net-zero carbon electricity by 2050 goal.

Solar project will be largest in Dane County

The O'Brien Solar Fields will be located at the corner of Lacy Road and South Seminole Highway in Fitchburg on about 160 acres. When completed, the 60,000-panel project will be the largest solar array in Dane County.
