Drive Electric and Skip the Gas Station

MGE's home charging option makes it easy to fuel up at home.

There are plenty of good reasons to drive an electric vehicle (EV) – fun to drive, cheaper to fuel and lower emissions. You can add the convenience of filling up at home to the list! As the temperatures start to drop, trips to the gas station get even more bothersome. Drive an EV, and you can charge your car overnight and wake up to a full "tank." And, you can sip a cup of coffee in the kitchen as you remotely warm up your vehicle before you hit the road.

MGE makes it easier for drivers to charge at home. Sign up for Charge@Home, and MGE will coordinate the installation of a Level 2 charging station with no up-front costs. You can charge up to nine times faster than with a standard 110-volt outlet. Customers pay about $20 a month plus the cost of electricity. MGE will repair or replace the station if anything goes wrong. Drivers also can sign up for MGE's Shift & Save program. Customers save money by charging at night when electricity costs are lower.

Live in an apartment?

MGE has partnered with many apartment building owners to install charging stations for residents to use. Check out abodo.com to find apartments with on-site charging.

Charge on the road

While 80% of charging happens at home, public charging stations can help get you where you need to go. Get a quick charge at one of 10 DC fast chargers in the Madison area. Five of those are in MGE's wind-powered public charging network that includes more than 40 stations. Sign up for MGE's EV Owners Group and pay 50% less when you charge at an MGE station.
