Fast Charger Hub Coming to Madison
The hub's DC fast chargers are among the fastest charging options available.
Electric vehicle (EV) drivers have a new option for convenient and fast charging in downtown Madison this winter. Located at the intersection of East Washington Avenue and South Livingston Street, MGE's fast charging hub features eight fast charger stalls and eight Tesla Superchargers.
"Electrification is a key strategy for reducing carbon emissions and achieving net-zero carbon electricity by 2050. Quick and easy EV charging will help to enable the growth of cleaner, more sustainable transportation options," said Debbie Branson, MGE Manager of Electrification. "We're excited to have the hub in the heart of downtown Madison, where it will be easily accessible for EV drivers."
DC fast chargers and Tesla Superchargers
The hub's DC fast chargers are among the fastest charging options available. Although charging times can vary by vehicle, four stalls will provide approximately 12 to 18 miles of range per minute – that means a 300-mile-range vehicle can charge to 80% in about 20 minutes.
The hub was created to help meet the fueling needs of EV drivers who live in apartments and condo residents who don't have access to charging stations at home. It also supports businesses with EVs, including ride sharing and taxi fleets. Plus, this location supports commuting and long-distance travel.
MGE EV charging network
MGE hosts a network of charging stations throughout the greater Madison area. The electricity at our public stations is 100% renewable— generated at wind farms in Wisconsin and Iowa.
Charging rates are $2 an hour for our Level 2 stations. EV drivers will pay $5 an hour for fast charging at the hub. EV drivers who sign up to join MGE's EV Owners Group are eligible to receive 50% off the cost of charging at MGE's public charging stations, including the MGE network chargers at the hub.
